Having a Heatwave!

Hello everyone and welcome to another newsletter on a heatwave day. For those who have suffered power outages while roasting in their homes, I am very sorry and I sure hope you fared well through it with no major ill-effects. One of our own mods, katinhats, had her power out for over 12 hours yesterday and she and her husband were truly miserable and feeling like they were being baked in a casserole before it was over.

I had every intention of getting a newsletter out for you yesterday, but then a migraine hit and I ended up hiding in misery under my pillows in our bedroom. I have been getting them every day of the week, starting Sunday, nothing works to get rid of them, not even when I take my regular dose of narcotic pain meds, and they are so bad, that if I try to sit here and do anything, I end up not being able to hold anything down, not even water. I am still not sure what is causing them, but I do know that they are very annoying and painful. Needless to say, I haven't eaten much this week either, I just have no appetite.

I also wanted to tell you about a new experiment I am going to undertake over this month, starting from the 1st of August, until the 31st, I am going to keep track, in a word file that I formatted just for this purpose, of all the freebies I send for, so maybe we can see who the reliable companies are, and who doesn't really send what they promise. I set my tracking form up as a table, with four columns as follows: (1) Date Ordered, (2) Item in question, (3) Website if different from the manufactures company, and (4) Date Received. In the past, I have given a rough estimate that I actually do receive approximately 80 to 85% of the freebies that I have requested, but I am curious as to figuring out a more definitive idea of how many actually do arrive. There are some companies that are never in doubt, like the Wal-Mart.com free samples, they always sent the items they offer, and they send them fast, too. But some others seem to be questionable, as no one ever gets them or just some people will get the freebie and others are left to wonder why they didn't get one when they had also signed up.

I have also noticed that some people sign up for tons of items, then they are totally baffled when we all post lists of the items we have received, and they have barely gotten any, even though they used the same links and signed up for the same exact things. Very strange, that. Anyway, if anyone has any ideas of what could be causing this phenomenon, I would love to hear from you, you can always reach me at verwon@gmail.com or via PM at the DOD site. If anyone else is also interested in trying to keep track of freebie receipt, please feel free to do so and then email your results to me, we may get a more accurate tabulation that way, and it might helps us to narrow down which companies aren't worth bothering with, and why some people don't seem to received anything.

I also think this would be a great time to tell you all that there are several new samples available at the Wal-Mart sampling site, which you can visit here:

Wal-Mart Samples

The new ones are Biore, Head&Shoulders, and Infusium.

There are also a few other store websites that provide sampling opportunities similar to the one at Wal-Mart.com, so you might want to check them out as well:

Pathmark: PathMark

(No store card needed to order the samples!)

RiteCare: RiteCare

Some of these places, even offer the sample samples, so you can several, since you can sign up for each different offer provided by a different company, and really have a nice chance to try something out before you spend your money on it. I have received several of the Swiffer Dusters, the John Frieda Radiant Red samples, the Nexxus Samples, and others.
